Hearing Center Inc.
Doctors recommend that you see a licensed Audiologist for your hearing testing and hearing needs.

Audiology services are provided by Master's degree and Doctoral level audiologists who specialize in hearing aids and assistive listening devices, are licensed by the State of Indiana and hold the Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology (CCC-A) by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association or a licensed hearing instrument specialist.

VISIT ONE:

AUDIOGRAM and HEARING AID EVALUATION

A complete otoscopic examination will be performed.  Unlike other providers, we will then perform a complete and thorough diagnostic audiometric evaluation to determine the type and degree of your hearing loss.  This exam goes far beyond your typical "FREE SCREENING" provided by other providers. Then you will be asked about your communication needs and we will work with you to determine which hearing aids are best for you. Impressions will then be taken for a secure and comfortable fit.

VISIT TWO:

HEARING AID FITTING

We will ensure you can insert and remove the hearing aids, change the battery and adjust the volume. Care and maintenance will be reviewed. Fine tuning adjustments may be made. You are allowed at least a 30 day trial period, to assess the benefit in your everyday listening situations. Payment in full is expected at this visit.  If insurance is covering a portion of one or both hearing aids, any amount over usual and customary is also due at this time.

VISIT THREE:

TWO WEEK HEARING AID CHECK

Please return with your questions, problems and successes! We will will answer your questions, suggest communication strategies, and fine tune your hearing aids based on your experiences. Further visits will be scheduled as needed.

Why Choose A Digital Hearing Aid? by Megan Garris, M.A. CCC-A

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK TODAY THERE IS DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY. COMPUTERS, FAX MACHINES, COMPACT DISKS, AND CELLULAR TELEPHONES ARE ALL EQUIPPED WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY THAT TRANSFORM OUR LIVES IN WAYS NO ONE COULD HAVE IMAGINED. NOW, EVEN HEARING AIDS CAN BE INCLUDED IN THIS DIGITAL REVOLUTION. SO WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE A DIGITAL HEARING AID OVER A "TYPICAL" HEARING AID? FOR THE SAME REASON YOU WOULD CHOOSE TO USE A COMPUTER OVER A CALCULATOR OR WORD PROCESSOR, DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SIMPLY DOES MORE, SOUNDS BETTER, AND CALCULATES SOUNDS IN A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME.

FOR YEARS, THE MAIN COMPLAINT PEOPLE HAVE HAD ABOUT THEIR HEARING AIDS IS THAT THEY SOUND "MACHINE-LIKE" AND THEY DO NOT HELP IN NOISY ENVIRONMENTS LIKE RESTAURANTS OR LARGE GROUPS. THE NEW DIGITAL HEARING AIDS ADDRESS THESE COMPLAINTS. WITH CONVENTIONAL HEARING AIDS, YOUR AUDIOLOGIST IS LIMITED TO MANUAL SCREWDRIVER ADJUSTMENTS THAT ADJUST ALL THE TONE SETTINGS AT ONE TIME. WITH DIGITAL HEARING AIDS, YOUR AUDIOLOGIST USES A COMPUTER TO ADJUST THE INDIVIDUAL TONES AND SOUNDS SO THE AID CAN BE UNIQUELY SET TO YOUR SPECIFIC HEARING LOSS AND HEARING NEEDS WHILE THE HEARING AID IS IN YOUR EAR, ALLOWING YOU TO DETERMINE WHAT SOUNDS RIGHT AND MOST NATURAL TO YOU.

A CONVENTIONAL HEARING AID MAKES ALL SOUNDS THAT ENTER THE HEARING AID LOUDER WHETHER IT BE SPEECH OR NOISE. IN THIS CASE, NOISE OFTEN OVERPOWERS THE SPEECH SIGNALS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND CONVERSATIONS WHILE IN A NOISY ENVIRONMENT. DIGITAL HEARING AIDS USE ADVANCED PROCESSING TO CONSTANTLY MONITOR YOUR LISTENING ENVIRONMENT FOR SPEECH SOUNDS, THEN AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES THE VOLUME OF THE SURROUNDING NOISE MAKING THE SPEECH EASIER TO HEAR. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUSH A BUTTON OR USE A REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE, YOU SIMPLY PUT THE DIGITAL HEARING AID IN YOUR EAR AND GO. IT'S THAT EASY!

TODAY, DIGITAL HEARING AIDS COME IN ALL SIZES. THE QUESTION IS WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT A DIGITAL HEARING AID OVER A 'TYPICAL" CONVENTIONAL HEARING AID.

Something To Think About?

When at first our hearing begins to fade;
Though the signs are foretelling,
we may choose to evade.

We tell others they don't speak clearly,
they mumble a lot;
My concentration is elsewhere,
that's why I ask, "What?"

Please talk a bit louder,
your voice is so weak;
I would hear you OK,
if you'd look at me as you speak.

I can hear you just fine,
when you're close at hand;
If you would learn to enunciate,
I could understand.

Being with family
is one of life's greatest joys;
But, don't expect me to hear,
with all that noise.

It's easy to blame others,
though it's not really fair;
It's your hearing problem,
solve it, show others you care.

He who said "silence is golden"
spoke for himself only;
For the hearing impaired.
"Silence is Lonely."

-Roy Bain, 1996
